The first woman in history who wore that dress… lost her head. Nowadays wearing a shirt-dress will immediately add Parisian « je ne sais quoi » to your look.
Today I want to inspire you to invest in a good quality shirt dress, because all designers are agreeing on one thing: « La robe chemise est indémodable » – Shirt dress will be never out of style. And so will we 🙂
LOOKING FOR THIS PERFECT DRESS FOR SUMMER IN PARIS
Every summer while having a conversation with my mother, we were saying to each other: « and this year, for sure I am buying a good quality shirt dress. Because, you know, it goes with everything and it just looks perfect ».
Years were passing and I still was looking for my « perfect classical shirt dress ». And this year, while enjoying sales in Paris, I have finally found one!
PERFECT SHIRT DRESS – HOW TO FIND « THE ONE »?
I think that a shirt dress will go great with all body types. This is a dress for tall girls, petites, and with curvy bodies. We all have our perfect shirt dress waiting for us somewhere!
Since my body type is hourglass, I wanted to buy a dress with a tie waist and also midi-length. In the city I feel more comfortable wearing longer skirts, in case of the strong wind blowing from the Parisian metro…
I also adore oversized shirt dresses, but with my body type I try to avoid them. But if you can wear – don’t hesitate! I will be just jealously looking at your Instagram feed 🙂
HOW TO STYLE IT?
I think all depends on what we want to achieve. My shirt dress is from Zapa and it’s quite romantic so I paired it with high heels sandals from Karen Miller. In the same time, since the dress is in pale brown color, it goes well with red lipstick and red accessories. I also think that it looks nice with delicate jewelry.
You can also look for an off-duty shirt dress or a silk shirt dress that will be perfect for a romantic and elegant evening. Below you can find some of my favorite shirt-dresses from Zalando.
A SHORT HISTORY OF A SHIRT DRESS
Shirt dress is yet another garment that we can enjoy thanks to France. According to fashion historians, it was Marie Antoinette who was the first to wear la robe chemise. It is rumored that in the 17th century people were not ready for a shirt dress…. and it ended with quite a scandal. Wearing a long, transparent chemise was possible only when going to sleep, but Marie Antoinette decided that she wants to have her portrait taken while wearing la robe chemise. I guess at the time it was considered like taking a naked selfie and showing it to everyone….
Today the shirt dress is a classical piece that we consider completely innocent and very elegant.
A FEW WORDS ABOUT THOSE PHOTOS….
